Controlling Allergies While Owning A Cat

If you or someone in your home has a slight cat allergy and you want to keep the pet without having any health complications, there are a few things you can try to do. If the allergy isn't life threatening or causing serious health concerns, changing the way you clean and doing some things with the cat can help.

You'll want to call your veterinarian to make an appointment for your cat, and you'll want to start doing the following things around your home.

If your feline has dry skin or other skin problems, it may increase the amount of pet dander, skin cells and hair that gets left around the house. Your cat may have an allergy that makes them lose more hair than normal that causes them to scratch and more. They may need to have a prescription medication to treat the problem, or the veterinarian may want to run tests to see why they are shedding abnormally.

Groom Regularly

Cats don't love to get groomed but that doesn't mean it isn't something you should do regularly. Having the carpets professionally cleaned a few times throughout the year and keeping all cat bedding washed regularly will help.

It's important to dust as frequently as possible to keep the hair and dander off the surfaces in your space. These are great options you can try to control the allergy triggers caused by your cat, but they aren't guaranteed to work. If people are still suffering from allergy symptoms after treatment has been attempted, it may be best to get a hairless cat, or to use medication to deal with the allergy symptoms. The cleaner you can keep your house, the easier it will be to control the symptoms that people are dealing with.
